The Battle over the Internet and the Right to Free Speech

The Assault on Free Speech Reaches
The Electronic Frontier of America

FREE SPEECH UNDER SIEGE

AN IMPORTANT ISSUE FOR LEFT, RIGHT, DEMOCRAT, REPUBLICAN, LIBERTARIAN, INDEPENDENT, LIBERAL, CONSERVATIVE

Is it paranoia to wonder if there is a coordinated effort at reigning in Free Speech?

In the last thirty days, the forces that assault the right to free speech have been attacking their target from multiple positions--most of them from inside the Obama administration.

No one--well, almost no one--has come out and said "Free speech is bad for you". At least in as many words. The government just wants to "regulate" it.

REGULATE IT?!?

Make no mistake: free speech has been getting pummeled from a variety of government spokespeople. What's disturbing is that some of these people have the power to put action behind their words.

While individual stories have been duly noted in the press, has there been any reports on why so many attacks have taken place in such a short period of time?

What's happened in the last month? Let's take a look at a few of the stories that should cause concern:

  1. FCC Chairman targets the Internet
  2. Federal Trade Commission Trains His Focus on Bloggers
  3. America Cedes Control of the Internet
  4. Hate Crimes Bill goes after "hate speech"
  5. FCC 'Diversity Czar' Praises Chavez Media Crackdown
  6. Regulatory Czar, Cass Susstein, Publishes "Rumors" booklet
  7. US co-sponsors New Improved "Free Speech" resolution with Egypt
  8. Sen. Rockefeller (D-WV) sponsors S. 778 which Creates "Internet Czar"

That seems enough for right now. This article won't address them all, but will take a look at several of them.

The Internet Cops are Coming

FCC CHAIRMAN SEEKS INTERNET REGULATION

The FCC seems to be pushing ahead on several fronts in the assault on free speech. One way--some would argue a backdoor method--is to regulate those companies that provide internet connections.

So, the new FCC chairman, Julius Genachowski, announces that he wants to regulate the Internet. Government regulating one of the last frontiers of free speech--what could go wrong?

From New FCC Chairman Targets internet:

Tim Andrews, at Americans for Tax Reform, relates a disturbing bit of news.

Only a week after President Obama’s newly-appointed FCC Chairman, Julius Genachowski, announced his plans for government regulation of the internet, a study by the network planning consultancy AIRCOM International revealed the cost of an upgrade to LTE (or 4G) telecommunication technology could be as much as $1.78 billion for a tier one US operator in the first year. When implemented, this technology will significant increase broadband speeds for consumers, and allow for significant improvements in speed and quality.
--Tim Andrews,
Administration Plans To Stifle 4G Broadband
(h/t Instapundit)

For the technology-challenged, what's this all mean? Andrews continues:
Unfortunately, if Genachowski gets his way and is allowed to begin regulating the internet, and micro-managing telecommunication operators, network operators won’t be able to turn a profit from their investments in infrastructure because they can’t manage their own networks. So they just won’t build the infrastructure. And Americans will miss out on the quality services they would have received had the government not intervened.

Tim Andrews concludes: "The free market has allowed the internet to flourish and proper for the last 20 years. It is sheer folly now to crush it under the cold dead hand of government."

NOTE: Between the time we wrote this article and its publication, Glenn Beck (love him, hate him, but listen to the information and then do some research) did the following 6 minute segment on his Wednesday TV show. h/t Lori Smith, Freedom's Phoenix; IS MARXIST-LED ‘FREE PRESS’ GROUP SHAPING OBAMA POLICIES?

One way to dress up an assault on free speech is to frame the regulations as a battle against "big business". A famous example: the oil companies in the mid-1970s were portrayed as "evil" and a "Windfall Profits Tax" was imposed. The result of taxing productive companies because they're productive?

High prices and long lines for gasoline.

When Internet service deteriorates due to decreased investment, the usual suspects will claim that it wasn't government intervention that was the culprit and will call for more government intervention to fix it.

At any step of the way, Internet providers can be forced to patrol for "hate speech", "rumors", "racist speech" and "irresponsible speech". The problem?

Who's doing the labeling of what constitutes "evil" speech. Will it be the same people who called the August tea party protesters "racists" be in charge of that--like they are now?

A random look at some of these free speech assaults that have taken place in the last several weeks.

................
FTC trains government focus on … bloggers
Where does the FTC’s jurisdiction end? If I get a free tube of toothpaste in the mail and say nice things about it on Twitter, Facebook, or in a PTA meeting, do I have to disclose it as a freebie or pay the $11,000 fine the FTC imposes? What kind of disclosure can one fit into a 140-character Twitter message, anyway?

This is another in a line of paternalistic decisions on consumer product issues from the federal bureaucracy. It treats blog readers like idiots who are in constant danger of brainwashing by bloggers. American consumers are much brighter than the FTC assumes, but treating us like adults would not give them leverage to increase their power and their intrusiveness.

If the FTC has the time to chase down bloggers who do product reviews, then they must not have much to do. These new rules insinuate themselves into regulating free speech, and worse, they give no clear guidelines on the scope of the enforcement or the methods of disclosing properly to avoid the FTC’s wrath. They aim a bazooka at a gnat in terms of public danger to consumers and threaten to squelch the online discussion of product virtues and failings, which can help inform people in their choices.

Ceding the Internet

Last week, President Obama proudly announced at the United Nations the steps taken by his administration to “embrace a new era of engagement” in international affairs. These actions included supporting the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, addressing global warming through the U.N., joining the Human Rights Council, signing the Disabilities Convention, supporting the Millennium Development Goals, and paying America’s arrears to the United Nations without asking the organization to implement reforms to prevent those payments from being misused.

Well, we can add another dubious decision to the list of sacrifices the Obama administration has made to alter of international engagement. Today it was announced that the administration has agreed to cede much U.S. control over the nonprofit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which regulates and manages the Domain Name System under which Internet Protocol addresses and registration of top-level domains (such as .org and .com) are assigned.

Czar seeks 'chilling effect' on internet

If Czar Sunstein is able to enact the "chilling effect" that he proposes in Rumors by the next general election, websites like the American Thinker could become regular targets of retraction demands from the Left, and face the threat of fines for spreading what the Regulatory Czar defines as "rumors."
----------------------

-------------------

New FCC Chairman Targets internet

New Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski could have used a few more dollops of genuine humility in his Monday speech advocating enforceable "network neutrality" rules for the Internet. Despite declaring "we cannot know what tomorrow holds on the Internet," he showed he intends to lead the FCC as if it were all-knowing. That will only end up choking the greatest engine of innovation in modern times.
Genachowski laid out his plans in a highly anticipated speech at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. The mostly voluntary concept of net neutrality -- which encourages the free flow of content across the Internet -- would be transformed into formal rules Internet service providers (ISPs) would violate at their peril....

Genachowski is attempting to solve a problem that doesn't exist, which he plainly admitted by stating his goal is to "preserve" the freedom and openness of today's Internet.

...

The new chairman said, "this is not about government regulation of the Internet," and he did it with a straight face. But this is all about government regulation of the Internet, coming from an agency with a proven record of regulatory failure and abuse of power.

Americans should have little faith in Genachowski's pledge the FCC "will do as much as we need to do, and no more" when regulating the Internet. When you don't "know what tomorrow holds on the Internet," how can you be sure the regulatory lines will be drawn so perfectly?

Answer: You can't. But it's clear what awaits us if the FCC moves forward with the chairman's plans: less freedom, less investment, less innovation.

Potential FTC Fines Raise Big Blogging Questions

The reasoning behind the guidelines seems noble enough - provide transparency and keep consumers safe from hokey information. However, the concept of the government dictating how this happens does not sit well with a lot of people. The revisions (which can be found in this 81 page document [pdf], should you care to peruse them [they start around page 55]) have ruffled quite a few feathers and the conversation has become one about free speech.

Jeff JarvisWell-known author/editor/publisher Jeff Jarvis makes a really good point. He says the FTC assumes that the Internet is a medium. "It’s not. It’s a place where people talk. Most people who blog, as Pew found in a survey a few years ago, don’t think they are doing anything remotely connected to journalism. I imagine that virtually no one on Facebook thinks they’re making media. They’re connecting. They’re talking," he says. "So for the FTC to go after bloggers and social media – as they explicitly do – is the same as sending a government goon into Denny’s to listen to the conversations in the corner booth and demand that you disclose that your Uncle Vinnie owns the pizzeria whose product you just endorsed."

-----------

Obama's FTC Moves to Regulate Bloggers

The Federal Trade Commission on Monday took steps to make product information and online reviews more accurate for consumers, regulating blogging for the first time and mandating that testimonials reflect typical results.

The FTC will require that writers on the Web clearly disclose any freebies or payments they get from companies for reviewing their products. The commission also said advertisers featuring testimonials that claim dramatic results cannot hide behind disclaimers that the results aren't typical.

The FTC said its commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the final guidelines, which had been expected. The guides are not binding law, but rather interpretations of law that hope to help advertisers comply with regulations. Violating the rules, which take effect Dec. 1, could result in various sanctions including a lawsuit.

-------------------

You Can't Say That

The Obama administration has marked its first foray into the UN human rights establishment by backing calls for limits on freedom of expression. The newly-minted American policy was rolled out at the latest session of the UN Human Rights Council, which ended in Geneva on Friday. American diplomats were there for the first time as full Council members and intent on making friends.

President Obama chose to join the Council despite the fact that the Organization of the Islamic Conference holds the balance of power and human rights abusers are among its lead actors, including China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. Islamic states quickly interpreted the president's penchant for "engagement" as meaning fundamental rights were now up for grabs. Few would have predicted, however, that the shift would begin with America's most treasured freedom.

For more than a decade, a UN resolution on the freedom of expression was shepherded through the Council, and the now defunct Commission on Human Rights which it replaced, by Canada. Over the years, Canada tried mightily to garner consensus on certain minimum standards, but the "reformed" Council changed the distribution of seats on the UN's lead human rights body. In 2008, against the backdrop of the publication of images of Mohammed in a Danish newspaper, Cuba and various Islamic countries destroyed the consensus and rammed through an amendment which introduced a limit on any speech they claimed was an "abuse . . . [that] constitutes an act of racial or religious discrimination."

...

The new resolution, championed by the Obama administration, has a number of disturbing elements. It emphasizes that "the exercise of the right to freedom of expression carries with it special duties and responsibilities . . ." which include taking action against anything meeting the description of "negative racial and religious stereotyping." It also purports to "recognize . . . the moral and social responsibilities of the media" and supports "the media's elaboration of voluntary codes of professional ethical conduct" in relation to "combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance."

From Bill would give president emergency control of Internet

Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.

They're not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.

National Cyber Insecurity Awareness Month

This bill is sponsored by Sen. John Rockefeller (D-WV)

S. 778.(National Cybersecurity Advisor Act of 2009)- A bill to establish, within the Executive Office of the President, the Office of National Cybersecurity Advisor.

That’s the bill to permanently establish the Cyber Czar.

The pace is accelerating under the Obama administration.

This is an issue of constitutional freedoms.

This issue is neither a left or right, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or Independent issue, Liberal or Conservative.

Conservatives on the right, moderates in the middle, and liberals on the Left--as well as civil libertarians--need to start contacting your congressional members and Senators.

Find out where they stand. DEMAND that they vote to keep speech free and unencumbered.

There are a lot of issues to address here. Pick one, pick two or pick 'em all.

If you have a blog, pick one and write about it.

David Letcherman Staff Receives Instructions

David Letterman had sex with multiple members of his staff and another producer attempted to blackmail him for $2 million. Letterman (Letcherman) then turned the tables and informed the police.

One more instance of the saying, "When life gives you lemons, throw them at a pathetic, washed-up late-night TV host."

The biggest revelation is that his staff could stifle the reflex to yell, "Rape!" while having sex with a septuagenarian TV guy.

The graphic above smacks of Irony Curtain.

Which means another proud progressive mouthpiece has felt bite from the tongues of steel at that fine emporium of state humor, the comrades at I Own the World.com.

Climate Change: Man-made Hockey Sticks

Your Ad Here

The Climatic Hokey Schtick

The primary drive for global weather panic, otherwise known as GLOBAL WARMING (gasp), comes from a simpleton graph by Michael E. Mann, known as The Hockey Stick. This graph reputed to show that the Earth was undergoing an unprecedented spike in temperature. The graph has been criticized by many real statisticians, paleontological climate scientists, and simple weathermen for various reasons.

The usual criticism is centered on the simple point that to establish a "norm" in statistics, one must be confident that a wide spread and accurate body of data exists to create a base line. For example, selecting Friday night at PM to average out the price of hotel rooms in New York City may not actually reflect..........the price of hotel rooms in New York City. And 1979 is really a bad year to suddenly start modern global weather science, but that is where the United Nations, NASA, and NOAA do,....... because that is when the USA put up the first weather satellite. 1979 was cold. Hey, but who cares? Seems like a nice place to begin if you want to prove the world .....warming.

In fact the world did significantly warm from 1979 thru 1998. And while temperatures have not risen since, the world remain a fraction of a degree warmer on average than it was from 1950 through 1979. This has apparently convinced many that the world is about to turn into Venus--and mankind is responsible.

But is this temperature really that historically unique?

Mann's Hockey Stick graph, Keith Briffa's information and graph of his own concluded as much.. In fact this information was incorporated, graph and all, into the United Nations report on Global Warming.

Many scientists always were skeptical of Mann and Briffa's seemingly absolute ability to discern average temperatures around the globe for tens of thousands of years. We presently cannot tell you the temperature of central Antarctica or Baffin Island.... last year or... last week.

But Mann and Briffa demonstrated to everyone that the present run up of the world's temperature for a 30 year period, from 1979 through 2007 was unprecedented, and hence gave Global Warmists their strongest data point that Global Warming was anthropogenic in origin. Because, well no one knows the because. Because a minor greenhouse gas, CO2, seemed to increase in correlation to the temperature.

Duh. (Could it be because a warmer world increases biologic and geologic CO2 ?)
Human kind exudes a great deal of Carbon Dioxide. All fauna does. Humans now contribute almost 6 billions tons a year to atmospheric Carbon Dioxide .

Against nature's 183 billion tons.

A year.

But what if the entire Hockey Stick graph was manufactured? What if the famous Hockey Stick was purposely created to prove a POLITICAL point?

That the Western World needed to become more like South America.
That Americans are evil.
That they should be punished?
That all of the Western World should be punished.
That people should have less babies.
That old people should be kindly eliminated.
That the unfit should be humanely disposed of.
That Democracy was an aboration that let peasants have a say over the 'much smarter'...and that these smarter people now need to create a series of International Treaties to deal with the aberrant societies.

As it turn out: it is true.

Manufactured by creating evidence by purposely choosing temperature proxies that favored a graph showing that historical Earth temperatures were markedly colder than now. Thus creating the impression that current temperatures are not only unusual, but an impetus to ...PANIC!!!!.

Steve McIntyre, has finally, after years of requests, has managed to get his hands on the temperature proxies selected by Briffa to establish the planet was in a runaway heat up. Proxies are obviously necessary because there were no thermometers around at the times we are interested in. So we use ice cores, ocean sediment, tree rings, dead civilizations, and geologic evidence to try to deduce past weather. Of course it is notoriously inaccurate. And extremely regional. In fact the Southern Hemisphere and the Northern often seem to be out of tune with each other.

Of all of the proxies one may use, tree rings seem the flimsiest. Tree rings vary because of sunlight, rain, weather, and stress. And there is only general correlation between these variables. Sometimes none at all.

So Mann and Briffa selected ....tree rings as his temperature proxy. The key word being 'selected'. Which cleared up why the data sources were basically concealed for 14 years. Briffa and Mann, who utilized the Briffa data selected tree proxies that indicated warming by their analytical methodology. When McIntyre included all proxies available to Briffa from the same sources, a decidedly different picture emerges:

Yup. The Hockey Stick turns into a Hokey Shtick.

Did Elizabeth Edwards Use "Cherubim" Alias to Attack Rielle Hunter?

Your Ad Here

IS/WAS ELIZABETH EDWARDS
The Commenter Known as "Cherubim"?

THE MYSTERIES OF THE CHERUBIM
Cherubim Wasn't a 'Blog Lurker'
She Only Commented on John Edwards Scandal Stories
--At Least at DBKP

The headline in the NY Daily News said it all.

John Edwards' ex-mistress, Rielle Hunter, targeted by Elizabeth Edwards in blog comments

"A source close to Elizabeth Edwards says the former Senator's wife is sniping at former Edwards mistress Rielle Hunter via an online pseudonym."

The Daily News goes on to say:

For months now, Elizabeth, who is said to be talking to a divorce lawyer, also has been sniping at Hunter - painting her as a blackmailing gold digger - in blog comments where she uses the pseudonym "Cherubim," according to a source who knows Elizabeth.

Though "Cherubim" has recently described herself as an African-American woman, the source insists, "It's Elizabeth. She's used 'cherubim' as a password. Look at the gravestone of their son Wade: It's an angel holding a boy."

The piece finishes with, "Elizabeth's publicist and lawyers for John Edwards and Hunter declined comment."

This only confirms what some in the blogging community have suspected for quite some time. DBKP was tipped to the Cherubim/Elizabeth Edwards connection sometime in spring 2008 (if memory serves).

We ran an IP check then and--again, if memory serves--the Cherubim emails (two or three were checked) came from a New York City neighborhood. While this didn't rule out EE--the woman does travel and could have sent them from there--it was soon forgotten in the everyday rush of other news.

JOHN EDWARDS LOVE CHILD SCANDAL LIBRARY

Over 140 DBKP stories on the scandal and its participants: John Edwards, Rielle Hunter, Fred Baron, Andrew Young, Elizabeth Edwards and a cast of thousands.

"Cherubim" has commented frequently on John Edwards stories originating at DBKP (including DBKP, DBKP@Blogger and Bloggers News Network).

In fact, on at least one occasion, it's remembered that another commenter referred to Cherubim in a later comment as "Elizabeth Edwards".

Again, around a year ago, another reader asked us about the Cherubim/Elizabeth Edwards connection. We checked out some Cherubim emails at that time and they were now coming from Nashville, TN.

We weren't sure what to make of that.

SO IS ELIZABETH and CHERUBIM ONE AND THE SAME PERSONA?

We asked ex-Hunter confidante, Pigeon O'Brien, what she thought this past weekend. Her response?

"If it quacks like an Elizabeth Edwards duck..."

After sifting through some of Cherubim's comments, JammieWearingFool had this assessment [Elizabeth Edwards Targets Rielle Hunter in Blog Comments?]:

"Yes, it's a safe bet to say this probably is Mrs. Edwards.

Check this Google search and check out how many times 'Cherubim' surfaced the past year or so. Seems Mrs. Edwards has been in deep denial."

Mickey Kaus [Elizabeth Edwards, Blog Mystery Woman?] weighs in with several thoughts:

UPDATE: This blogger claims the Daily News story is false, though I don't quite follow his argument ... ORIGINAL ITEM: If--big if--St. Elizabeth Edwards is the blog commenter "cherubim"--as the N.Y. Daily News' Rush & Molloy argue--it raises as many questions as it answers! In particular, this one: Is "cherubim" a) deluded (actually believing Edwards clearly "was not the father" of Rielle Hunter's child, etc.), or b) deceiving (trying to sell the Web on a story she might well not be true, a story she was in fact working out in her comments)? Or--the inevitable consensus choice (c)--some wacky combo of both? ... As usual, I urge readers not to overlook possibility (b) ... This Daily Beast web page (worth a screen cap just in case) is one of those with juicy "cherubim" comments that now seem much juicier. ... P.S.: Note that on this page "cherubim" is accused of being Elizabeth Edwards back on June 22 by another commenter, "Ohseriously."

To all of this, we might vote for Kaus' (b) above. We've noted in the past about some of Elizabeth Edwards' statements concerning the affair [John Edwards Cover-up: Press Releases a Carefully-Orchestrated Affair?] and might paraphrase O'Brien from above, "If it denies, parses and dissembles like a duck..."

All of this piqued our curiosity, so we checked out the comments from Cherubim for the last 10-11 months that were left on articles originating from this site (DBKP.com).

We include some of them below and will let the reader come to his own conclusion.

[ABOVE: Elizabeth Edwards' and John Edwards backstage at a gathering at Chapel Hill NC on December 30 2006. Rielle Hunter is present and recording the event. Both John and Elizabeth Edwards later released highly-parsed statements, that while factually correct, misled the public into thinking that the affair was long over by the date above.]

John and Elizabeth Edwards have been married for 32 years. They had four children together; three are living, and one died when he was only 16 years old. Elizabeth Edwards has stage 4 cancer. Any decent human being would not have inserted herself into their lives, and then sold stories about them to the National Enquirerfor monetary gain. (Hunter is a “ho” mining for gold.)Lisa Druke, a.k.a. the Rielle (Real) Hunter fills me with disgust. I hope someday to never hear anything about her again.

By the way, I found Elizabeth’s new book, Resilience, to be quite inspirational. I think everyone would benefit from reading the passage in the book that tells the story of the Japanese woman who survived the atomic bomb thatwas dropped on Hiroshima.
--"Cherubim", June 1 2009 comment on John Edwards and Wild Card Ex-Mistress: Barbara Walters Interview with Rielle Hunter

Hours later that same day, Cherubim had another thought.
The Rielle (Real) Hunter is a made up name used
by a woman named Lisa Druke. Her friend, Pigeon,
also uses a made up alias.

I think these people work for some secret society,
that’s out to do evil

Several days later, Cherubim returned to the same story to post the following comment.
Oh people, please!!!!
Everybody in America and Half of Mainland China
knows the Rielle (Real) Hunter has a baby that she is claiming to be John Edwards’. There is no reason for John and Elizabeth Edwards to pay this whore to keep her mouth and legs closed. She has already opened them both multiple times.
That’s why the Rielle (Real) Hunter, herself, does not want a paternity test. She just wants John and Elizabeth to not be at peace. Well Lisa Druke a.k.a.
the Rielle (Real) Hunter your 15 minutes is up.
Good bye!!!!!!

And again, four hours later on the same story:

"Lisa Druke’s (a.k.a. The Rielle (Real) Hunters’)
15 minutes are up."

If this story is true, then one can only conclude that Rielle Hunter knows for a fact that Senator John Edwards is not the father of her child. This makes me happy for John and Elizabeth Edwards, their children ,and the American people whom John Edwards has, and I hope will continue to serve.
President-Elect Barack Obama has chosen, mostly, Wall Street promoters and corporate lawyers to be in his cabinet. He hasn’t included anyone who knows how to interact and relate with everyday American citizens, and then report back to him concerning: (1) what the people need, and (2) whether his administration’s new initiatives are working. During the Great Depression, Eleanor Roosevelt fulfilled this role for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. I nominate Senator John Edwards for this role. John Edwards would be a refreshing change. Is not change what Obama s supposed to be about? As a rival of Barack Obama, for the Democratic Party Presidential nomination, John Edwards, consistently spoke up for average Americans, i.e. Main Street, not Wall Street. During his “Road to One America Poverty Tour” John Edwards demonstrated that he is uniquely qualified for this role.

--"Cherubim", December 17 2008 comment on John Edwards Scandal: Rielle Hunter In New Jersey, Out of Hush Money

On one of our BNN stories, John Edwards Affair: Rielle Hunter in N. Jersey, Out of Cash last December, Cherubim dropped multiple comments attacking both Rielle Hunter and the National Enquirer.

She also returned to the "Rielle Hunter is a whore" meme that ran through a lot of her comments on DBKP and BNN stories about the Edwards' scandal.

When, Rielle Hunter refused to get a DNA paternity test, it became clear to everyone that Senator John Edwards was not the father of her child. A sex partner is not necessarily a mistress, sometimes the partner is just a whore.

Considering that she was being kept so lavishly by another guy and the National Enquirer, she still should have some money.
But if she needs child support,
she can take the real father to court and get it.

Everybody has been so quick to vilify John Edwards and
suggest that his marriage isn’t solid. Sex isn’t always indicative of the solidity of a marriage.
Mrs. Edwards has cancer, and, maybe, sometimes, when she is on various medications, sexual intercorse is not always possible.
I think Mrs. Edwards “whom John obviously adores” is wise
enough to distinguish true love from a sexual dalliance.

A few days later on the above story, this comment appeared from Cherubim. After the NY Daily News item, it reveals more today than it did back in December.

Some things like marriage relationships are private to be discussed between the persons involved. People need to stop pretending they are outraged. The only person with a right to be outraged is Elizabeth Edwards, and she has decided to spend much of her time working for universal health care for Americans. She has also said she and her husband want to dedicate their lives to fighting poverty. Let’s not hinder them.

Other things like jobs, labor rights, the collapse of our economy, and government bailouts are public matters to be discussed by all Americans. I don’t want to see working Americans treated like the workers in “third world countries”. John and Elizabeth Edwards are well aware of their short comings, but they also know how to fight and work for the American people.
Watch the video of John, Elizabeth and their two youngest children at work restoring a home in New Orleans:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itn6xVOmR94&NR=1

I leave you with this quote from Senator John Edwards:
“It’s not in how many times you fall down, what matters is how many times you
get back up.”

Cherubim returned to the above story on April 2 2009.
Steph what you wrote is so very true.
To day is Ampril 2, 2009 very soon it will be
tax time again. However, I am sure the IRS is already investigated whether she paid taxes on
the money she has already extorted.

Rielle may be about to find out:
“What goes around, comes around.”
I hope Rielle Hunter gets what she deserves.

“Hunter has an important date coming . . . April 15th. That is the day she has to report all the financial support she has received this year as income and pay taxes on it. The IRS shows no mercy and they are certainly aware of the huge amount of money she has been given. So having blown through all that cash is going to come back to bite her big time. The IRS has enormous power against which people have little recourse. If she thought she is playing hardball, she’s going to find out what hardball really is!”

Cherubim comment on John Edwards Scandal Cover-up: Three Carefully-Coordinated Statements?:

"I think when Elizabeth Edwards was diagnosed with Cancer, John became a man with fear and pain. I think the affair resulted because he wanted to forget and live without pain. For those who hate John Edwards know this he is in more pain now than he ever has been, and he will still most likely lose his wife, Elizabeth to cancer. As it stands, now, only the New World Order Corporations benefit. I hope that, soon, John and Elizabeth will return to help us with the fight to obtain universal health coverage and end poverty. What would Jesus Christ say? Answer: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”"

To which this author replied:

Cherubim,

I’m in no position to speculate what Jesus would say; however, elsewhere in the Bible, it does admonish, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” or “bear false witness”.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by, read and comment.

MORE CHERUBIM COMMENTS

[ABOVE: John Edwards' parents look on as he signs another autograph at a gathering at Chapel Hill NC on December 30 2006. Rielle Hunter is still in attendance. Both John and Elizabeth Edwards later released highly-parsed statements that misled the public into thinking that the affair was dead by the date above.]

"All this current sanctimonious crap being broadcast in the media disgusts me. What is important is what John and Elizabeth fought for during the campaign: universal health care and an end to poverty in America. These are goals worth fighting for. When they are ready to resume the fight, I’ll be willing to stand beside them."
--Cherumbim August 27 2008 on John Edwards Scandal: Mainstream Press Sticking to Schieffer Standard

The “Saving Graces” paperback was published officially on Aug. 14, 2007.

Elizabeth Edwards writes:

“It is hard to describe the test of public life, the way people believe — to some degree correctly — that you belong to them. There are awful examples, of course, of those whose motives are selfish or not admirable, who pry their way into the lives of public people in order to exploit a kindness or a generous gesture. They are to be endured and, to some extent I largely chose to ignore, feared. They remind me of a more malicious version of the people who wandered into our house in Annapolis, walking around our living room, putting their hands on our things. It is a sad fact that these people are a threat to anyone with even the smallest amount of celebrity.”
---Cherubim comment, September 10 2008 on John Edwards Scandal: Fox News Gives New Edwards’ Time Line

So.

Is Elizabeth Edwards really "Cherubim"?

We don't know. We only have suspicions raised over the last 18-20 months and today's assertion that the NY Daily News has a source that states that she is.

It's a question for all of God's angels.

Including the odd Cherubim.

Weather Underground, ACORN and Obama: From Pitching Bombs to Pitching Policy

"...Weathermen advocated the overthrow of the government of the United States and the system of capitalism; toward that end, they carried out a campaign of bombings, jailbreaks, and riots."
--From Weather Underground

Bring the War Home

EX-WEATHER UNDERGROUND: What Are They Doing Today?
BILL AYERS, BERNADINE DORHN, ZACH POLLET, WADE RATHKE, DRUMMOND PIKE:
MAKING THE TRANSITION FROM VIOLENT OVERTHROW TO TAKEOVER from WITHIN

What do you do if you're a spoiled rich poser with time on your hands in the 1960s and 1970s?

For some, that question was answered by joining the Weather Underground--The Weathermen.

"...Weathermen advocated the overthrow of the government of the United States and the system of capitalism; toward that end, they carried out a campaign of bombings, jailbreaks, and riots."

Since armed overthrow of the US government and capitalism is so passe, so 1960s, the Weathermen moved on to other pursuits.

Perhaps, like the overthrow of the US government and capitalism by other means?

Keep in mind, ACORN is founded by these former Weather Underground. Even Progressives for Obama is Ayers and Dohrn founded. Project vote was founded by Zach Pollett. Tom Hayden ,Senator, founder of MoveOn.org, former husband of Jane Fonds, is former Weather Underground. Wade Rathke, founder of Acorn, is another one. So is Drummond Pike. Pike founded Tides.
--FBI Agent Talking About Bill Ayers. (video).

More to the point, how did the current president of the United States, Barack Obama, come to be surrounded and influenced by members of an organization that declared war on the United States of America in the 1960s?

WHERE ARE THEY TODAY?

Where are the former brothers-in-arms of the Weather Underground and what are they doing today? Let's take a look.

  1. Bill Ayers was the son of Commonwealth Edison Chairman and CEO Tom Ayers.

Much has been written (see links below) about the relationship between former Weather Underground leader, Bill Ayers, and President Barack Obama. Much of what the mainstream press wrote before the 2008 US election was apologia, often using the famous Obama quote that Ayers was "just some guy from my neighborhood".

The big question unasked by the media is if Barack Obama met Bill Ayers during the time both were in the Columbia University community at the same time that a splinter group of the Weathermen was still actively planting bombs. While the possibility has been suggested in blogs, there does not appear to be any record of any media directly asking Obama if he met Ayers in New York and if such a relationship spurred Obama to travel to Chicago to begin his career as a community organizer.
---Bob Owen, Ayers-Dohrn-Obama Tie Shouldn’t Be Dismissed; Oct. 6, 2008

  2. BERNADINE DORHN

    Bernadette Dorhn
[ABOVE: Bernadine Dorhn, former Weather Underground terrorist, Michelle Obama colleague and Obama babysitter.]

From Wikipedia: "Bernadine Ohrnstein in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1942 and grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, an upper-middle-class suburb of Milwaukee.

1995: Barack Obama launches his political career in a "coming out" party held in the home of Bernadette Dorhn and husband, Bill Ayers.
March 2009: Law authorities in San Francisco hold a press conference indicating that Dorhn was responsible for planting a pipe bomb that killed a SF police officer in 1970.
March 2009: Obama's Justice Department, tells SFPD not to comment on the case.

It was on Feb. 16, 1970, Sgt. Brian V. McDonnell of the San Francisco Police Department was killed by shrapnel from an anti-personnel bomb planted on a window ledge at the force's Park Station. The pipe bomb was filled with heavy metal staples and lead bullet projectiles. Another officer, Robert Fogarty, received serious wounds to his face and legs, and was partially blinded in the attack.

WND reported just months ago when top law enforcement officers in San Francisco signed a letter accusing Ayers and Dorhn of being directly behind the bombing, but the Obama Justice Department then told them not to comment on the case.

At that press conference March 12, directed by activist Cliff Kincaid of America's Survival Inc, the leaders of the San Francisco Police Officers' Association made public a letter pointing a finger at Ayers and Dohrn that demanded those responsible for the bombing be brought to justice.
--New report adds to evidence against Dohrn

It's not known how much influence the Obama's former babysitter has these days. Probably, as has been the case with other associations, no more than the president is publicly willing to admit.

  3. Zach Pollet

Former Weatherman, Zach Pollet, became ACORN's political director and the head of ACORN's Project Vote, now embroiled in voter fraud investigations in several states.

Zach Pollett, for instance, was Project Vote’s executive director and Acorn’s political director, until July, when he relinquished the former title. Mr. Pollett continues to work as a consultant for Project Vote through another Acorn affiliate.
--ACORN: Who Funds the Weather Underground’s Little Brother? by Matthew Vadum

Obama has admitted to working for Project Vote in 1992 when he ran a “successful voter registration drive”. He claims on his Fight The Smears website, “ACORN was not part of Project Vote”.

He was technically right: ACORN was not a part of Project Vote. Project Vote was a part of ACORN.

ACORN Watch: Project Vote, partisan antics, and illegality

Is Project Vote another example of "taking over the US government by other means?"

  4. Wade Rathke

Former Weatherman Rathke is the founder of Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN).

The group has had its federal funding cut within the last several days over charges of widespread corruption among many of its affiliate offices across the country. The organization was captured on video advising a pair of undercover journalists from Big Government.com on how to evade taxes and set up a brothel featuring underage child sex slaves.

Rathke and brother, Dale, have left ACORN after a nearly-$1 million embezzlement scandal. He then founded--surprise--ACORN International.

Google "Wade Rathke" and "Big Government.com" and you'll turn up hundreds of references.

  5. Drummond Pike

Pike, the director of the Tides Foundation, a George Soros-sponsored distributor of financial support to ACORN and its affiliates, among others.

Son of a wealthy investment banker, Pike is another child of privilege who sought to bring down that system so that community-unapproved 'others' couldn't duplicate his family's feat of creating wealth.

For more, see Drummond Pike at Undue Influence.

Like most of the other Weathermen, Pike makes a killing in his pursuit of helping the poor--in Pike's case, somewhere between $400,000-500,000/year.

SO HOW DID THE PRESIDENT GET INVOLVED WITH SO MANY MEMBERS OF THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND?

Question

How did the president come to be surrounded by this web of 1960s radicals who advocated violent overthrow of the US government, the "re-education" of capitalists and the "elimination" of 25 million Americans when they took over? [Obama, Bill Ayers: Ayers Wanted to Kill 25 Million Die-Hard Capitalists]

One clue: he's worked with many of them in the past.

Just look for the union label
In the mid 1990s, ACORN and the SEIU partnered with other leftist groups to help form the Marxist New Party, a political coalition. In 1995, Obama sought out their nomination. He was successful in obtaining that endorsement and used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.

ALSO: Barack Obama, Socialist: Obama a Member of Socialist New Party.

This particular part of Obama's past was studiously ignored by a media that traded its traditional vetting responsibilities for a chance to elect "one of their own". In addition, the media attacked any (read: Sarah Palin) who had the bad taste to bring this past to the attention of the public.

Big Media was largely successful in this task. That Obama had been a member of the Socialist New Party and ran under their banner was practically impossible to find anywhere except on the Internet.

Whenever one of these associations becomes more than the traditional Mouthpiece Media can bear and the president is asked about them, he usually responds in one of two ways.

1. He blames his staff.

From Obama's Inability to Hire Good Help Rears Its Head … Again:

We started covering Sen. Barack Obama's inability to hire good staffers in June 2007, when he blamed staffers for some opposition research trying to link Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, to outsourcing in India; for injecting some venom in the David Geffen/Hillary Clinton fight; and for missing an event with firefighters in New Hampshire.

In December, we noted again that Obama was blaming the answers on a 1996 questionnaire on a staffer; and was blaming his touring with "cured" ex-gay gospel singer Donnie McClurkin (which antagonized gays and lesbians) on bad vetting by his staff.

Those five buck-passing incidents were apparently not enough.

ABC's Jake Tapper eventually lists 14 incidents where the President, when caught or confronted with an unpleasant fact, blamed his staff for the problem.

Memo to President Obama: order a plaque to hang in the Oval Office:
"Good help is really really hard to find. Really."

2. He didn't know.
From DBKP's Barack Obama: Senator I-Didnt-Know, Nov 2 2008:
There have been other instances of Barack Obama pleading ignorance about unpleasant information once its reported (Father Michael Pfleger, for one).

Which may lead some to affectionately refer to Barack Obama as “Senator I-Didn’t-Know.”
On his release of medical, college and university records, Obama’s answer is silence.
When speaking of the future and his plans, Obama’s rhetoric is precise.

On information unearthed about his past, his response has many times been, “I didn’t know.”

MORE on the I-Don't-Know meme: Acorn Who?

Mr. Obama took great pains to act as if he barely knew about Acorn. In fact, his association goes back almost 20 years. In 1991, he took time off from his law firm to run a voter-registration drive for Project Vote, an Acorn partner that was soon fully absorbed under the Acorn umbrella. The drive registered 135,000 voters and was considered a major factor in the upset victory of Democrat Carol Moseley Braun over incumbent Democratic Senator Alan Dixon in the 1992 Democratic Senate primary.

Mr. Obama's success made him a hot commodity on the community organizing circuit. He became a top trainer at Acorn's Chicago conferences. In 1995, he became Acorn's attorney, participating in a landmark case to force the state of Illinois to implement the federal Motor Voter Law. That law's loose voter registration requirements would later be exploited by Acorn employees in an effort to flood voter rolls with fake names.

Many in the country and a few in the media are starting to wonder the president's push for rapid passage of bills that would fundamentally change the country. Changes that would not only limit individual freedom in the name of the "collective good", but also, some say, destroy capitialism.

If only the ones in the media had been more curious in 2008, the rest of the country wouldn't be so puzzled now.

Culture: Color Me Racist

Color Me Racist
Nancy Morgan
RightBias.com
September 17, 2009

Its now official. I'm a racist. No less than a former president of the United States has declared that if I oppose the takeover of 17% of our economy under the guise of health care reform, I hate black people.

According to President Carter, U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson's objection to a 'misstatement' in President Obama's speech to Congress last week was an act "based on racism" and rooted in fears of a black president. And a Rasmussen survey shows that fully 12% of Americans agree with him.

The old media has chimed in, with the left's favorite columnist, Maureen Dowd, going a step further. Rep. Joe Wilson said, "You lie' to Obama. But Maureen Dowd heard, "You lie, boy." Boy being one of the many politically incorrect words the left has decided is an indicator of racism. Point made. Case closed.
Another columnist, E. Danielle Egan, has joined the growing chorus. In the Philadelphia Enquirer, Egan blithely dismissed the app. 2 million protestors who turned out last weekend to protest Obama's policies, writing them off as illegitimate. "So I have decided it's time that what I've been watching be called what I believe it is: racism." She continues, "The level of rage being expressed is different and out of sync with what we know from the past." I guess she was visiting Atlantis during the Bush years, or something.

And just in case anyone has missed the point, ABC has devoted a full story to the racist motives of the Obama protestors.
So there. The media and political elite have spoken. Any opposition to Obama means the protestor is a bad person. A person unable to see beyond the color of his skin. A racist. (Isn't that called profiling?)

Conveniently for these elites, they have also decided that responding to ignorant racists is quite beneath them. Being a racist is bad, therefore there is absolutely no need to respond to the underlying complaint. Whew.
This is the ultimate free pass. It almost makes me wish I had been born black. Then I could make any claims I want, without any facts to back them up, and still maintain the moral high ground. I could blame every bad decision I ever made on racism and, best of all, put my opponents in the impossible situation of trying to prove a negative.

I would gain membership in the ever growing class of 'victims', which automatically grants me immunity from the normal rules of civilized behavior.
The fact that Joe Wilson was quite correct in branding Obama a liar is not the point. By diverting the issue to racial animus, Obama's 'misstatement' is conveniently overlooked. This is called a win-win situation.
Wilson's audacity in branding Obama a liar has caused a national firestorm. The left is in high dudgeon, quickly spinning the truth of Wilson's (admittedly disrespectful) assertion into a condemnation of his integrity, topping it off with the unprecedented act of issuing a formal rebuke from the House. Bad boy! (Can I say that?)
Not mentioned in this national brou haha is Sen Reid's Dec 15, 2004 statement, where he called called President Bush a liar. "President Bush is a liar. He betrayed Nevada and he betrayed the country."

I guess its OK to call white guys liars. Even when they can't come up with any specific lie. Its just something everyone knows. Bush lied. Strangely enough, I've never been taken up on my challenge to pay $100.00 to anyone who can cite a specific lie that Bush told. I digress.
Also not included in the conversation the left is successfully controlling, is President Obama's statement last week branding Kanye West a jackass. But, hey, West is black...this is starting to get confusing.
I'm in awe of the left. Though they have admitted not knowing the details of the 1,000 plus pages of the Obama health care 'reform', they have managed to divine what is in my heart. And the hearts of millions of others. And it's called racism.
Despite having elected a black president, the left would have us believe that the millions of whites who voted for Obama still hate black people. They would have us believe that, even though we can't see it, racism is still a dominant force in America. Its just evolved into the silent 'institutional' kind of racism that no one can quantify. But it's still there. I guess we just have to take their word for it. If we dare question their premise, we're racists. Game, set and match.
